~2 pages of text13. What did you sleep in or on? We slept on the ground. We were given two blankets. Didn't get to have sleeping bags. Once for about 10 days there was no fighting because a typhoon come through, and everyone just took cover. 14. What did you eat? C Rations, and they weren't too bad. K Rations, and they weren't worth shit. 15. Where was Boot Camp? San Diego, California I was there for 2 months. Sometimes if someone didn't march the right way, the officer would take his baton and hit the top of his or her helmets. They called them smack helmets. It never happened to me. 16. How did you get there? Took a train from Salt Lake City, Utah 17. What was the climate like? It rained a lot. We would wear ponchos much of the time. 18. Did you like wearing the same clothes everyday? We had two sets of clothes. (Dungarees) They were green. We did our own laundry and kept them clean. We each got a galvanized bucket and some soap and we would clean them when they were dirty. 19. Did you have to say YES Sir and NO Sir all the time? You would only have to say it to the officers. I didn't have a problem with saying Yes Sir and No Sir. Those that didn't say it would have to do bad duties. One of them was to have a needle and thread and then go around picking up cigarette butts and stringing them on the thread. 20. Did you receive any mail? How long did it take to get it? There was mail call everyday. It would take 4-5 days to get to San Diego and about 10 days to go overseas. 21. Did you carry a gun all the time? What kind of gun was it? I had to carry the gun at all times. It was suppose to always be arms length away. You never left your gun anywhere. If you were caught without the gun they made you sleep with it. My gun was an M-1. It would hold 8 shells. The bullets that I used in the gun were 30 06.
